California Cuts Time and Costs for Pesticide Registration

(Announcement to SciReg clients and other interested parties - August 5, 2004)

On July 27, 2004, the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) issued a news release that described several policy and regulation changes the Department will be adopting to lessen pesticide registration times and costs in California.  These changes are identified below and are further discussed in the accompanying DPR news release.

  • Elimination of the mandatory requirement for submission and review of efficacy data (except for new public health products, such as antimicrobials) to support all new registrations.
  • Registration of new products for which efficacy data is pending.
  • Completion of a pilot project to keep registrants up to date on pending registrations via e-mail.
  • Change of policy requiring pesticide residue data for product registration. See California Notice 2004-7 (http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/docs/canot/ca2004-7.pdf).

If you have any questions regarding the above policy and regulation changes or how these may affect your California registration actions, please feel free to contact any SciReg specialist.
